Mentoring – Five Month Programme

The joy of mentorship one to one is the scope to explore so many wonderful things – to do what you want to do…  because as many clients tell me, they hadn’t realised how much more there is than ‘just’ the camera movement…

Where do you want to go?

The mentorship journey is personal.. to you!  That’s the whole point of it.

You might want to immerse yourself in a transformative personal experience.

You may be a photographer transitioning from other styles to explore something new and have commercial aspirations.

Or, maybe you’re completely new or somewhere in-between…

Perhaps you want to come on an imaginative explorative journey with me weaving your photographic art into my approach with inhabiting the world with movement and seeing compositions everywhere I go…

Because of its bespoke nature mentoring is suitable for all levels of photographer from novice through to expert, who want regular photography advice, guidance and feedback.

This is completely bespoke and here’s how it works…

The initial mentorship lasts 5 months at £70 a month.   I do this because I’ve realised this is the way to create meaningful change where isolated lessons never can…

Within this time you will have 5 x 1 hour mentoring sessions.  You can bolt on additional hours for £70 an hour anytime you want to accelerate things further.

Month 1 – About You

To get us off to a flying start, I send you a questionnaire to complete and return to me a few days before our first meeting.  That way I’m prepared and clear what your hopes are before we get started and we can jump right in.  I’ll also ask you to upload a selection of images so I can get an idea of your visual voice (if appropriate, you might be a complete beginner in which case this won’t apply).   This session is about your skills, where you want to go and what you want to do… What is working for you and what isn’t… We create a plan and set you some goals to get started on over the coming month…

Month 2 – About Your Practice

This month we set to work using your homework imagery as our foundation to think about and explore your current practice… what’s working, what you want to develop and how to bring that to life for you.   Now we have a solid plan of where you want to go and what you can do and what you need to get there…

Month 3 onwards – The Process…

Using the plan we have created, we work to develop and work towards your goals together adapting and refining our plans as we go…

Where does the journey end?

That’s up to you, after month 5 it reverts to ‘pay as you go’ with no contract or commitment.  You can continue monthly, or you can book drop-in sessions to develop thoughts and ideas, skills or whatever you need in between.

During your five months I always give you access to all the content in The Tutorial Series – that’s another 18 hours + of material to pick and choose to support your learning as you go… You can dip into that in between our sessions for even more learning…

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I talk to you and ask questions about human/animal interactions and human ecology, photographic history, the breathing technique and all that other stuff you talk about?

Yes, of course!

I’m open to discussing anything you want to discuss.  If you ask me something I don’t know – I’ll say so.

Is it genre specific?

If you mean, is it woodlands or street etc.  No!   As art historians often say when they study impressionism, they are really studying the art of colour and light and that has no genre boundaries… You probably see in my work I’m always experimenting and thinking ‘huh, how interesting…’ that’s at the heart of what I do – creative exploration and I encourage everyone to have open minds and hearts to do the same…. You never know what you might be missing otherwise!

What’s Your Approach?

Over the last few years I’ve developed a framework I use.  None of these things ever exist in isolation so I don’t really like saying ‘framework’ they are the parts of the holistic whole broken down for clarity… it’s when they come together that the magic happens.

Camera Techniques – yep, these are the things I’ve just mentioned.  From how to set up the camera to getting Photoshop to do what you want…

You – then there’s you, the movements you want to make, how you’re making them, the effects you’re getting and how that works for the images you want to create… Physically you are a part of this process so that’s a part of this…

The World As A Canvas – this is where I think things get super exciting… the interaction with the world… How to ‘see’ compositions everywhere, how to express those in movement, how to edit those in the digital darkroom… I call it inhabiting the world, drawing on my training in anthrozoology and human ecology I help you inhabit the world…

Bringing it All Together – now it’s all coming together, it’s time to express and draw on thoughts from the artworld… how to use colour, shape, form and layout to make those images say what you want them to say…

What time slots are available?

I work flexibly to try and cover various time zones.  Right now, I’m dedicating Sunday late afternoon/evening, Friday and Tuesday daytimes to mentoring.   You’re not tied to a specific time every single month and can move around to suit yourself obviously on a first come first served basis in the diary…

I’m on the other side of the planet and our time zones are way off, can I join?

Feel free to email me, let me know where you are and we’ll see what we can work out 🙂

What happens if I miss a month because I’m ill or something else happens?

Life happens.  Email me and we’ll reschedule… I am flexible but to ensure time management, the only caveat is that all five sessions must be completed within 7 months from the first payment.

Can I book a single lesson with you?

I used to do that but realised that is simply not possible to make a valuable learning experience in just one hour… This is why I now only offer one-off pay as you go one-off sessions to clients who have completed the five month mentorship with me. I then know you, know your work and goals so a one off session is part of an ongoing conversation and development…

Refunds and Cancellations

This is a five-month commitment to develop your practice and payments are taken automatically each month. If your circumstances change and you need to stop early, email me and we’ll sort it out.

Do you accept Paypal?

My payment system is provided by Surecart and processed through Stripe for operational reasons.

Next Steps?

Simply add to basket, checkout and pay just the first months £70, I’ll then contact you to arrange an agreeable start point.

Each month thereafter you will receive an invoice for £70 and so on for the following four months. After that, you decide what you want to do and pay as you go if you wish to continue.

After booking, you will receive a receipt, and then sometime in the next day or so you will receive a personal email from me including a questionnaire and asking about your availability so we can get our diaries together and book in your first session and then we are up and running…

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to send me an email to amanda@amandanewell.com and I’ll gladly help…
